FAQs

  • What are your canvases made from?
We have three painting surfaces to choose from. Our linen sufrace is made from 100% Belgian linen and is glue sized using three coats of clear acrylic primer. Our ultra smooth polycotton surface is made from 65% polyester and 35% cotton and is triple primed under heavy metal rollers with three coats of white gesso. Our cotton surface is made from 100% cotton and carries a medium tooth. It is also primed using three coats of gesso.
  • What are your frames made from?
Our frames are made with two solid hardwood timbers. The first (and our most popular) is Raw Tasmanian oak. We choose to work with Tassie oak because it is a warm neutral wood that goes well with most artworks and interiors. Our second is Raw Australian Blackwood which ranges from a natural warm honey to a darker chocolate hue. We do not work with softwoods (such as Ayous) or composite materials with a wood veneer. Both of our hardwood options are considered the industry standard for fine art float/box framing, they're both durable and feature gorgeous natural grainage.
  • Can I order a custom size?
Absolutely! We are currently able to make custom FramePacks up to a maximum size of 150x150cm. For custom FramePacks or custom framing jobs please enquire via our Custom Framing page. Please note that sizes above 80x80 are available for pick-up only (we do not ship larger sizes).
  • Can you explain how FramePacks are priced?
Yes, absolutely. FramePacks are made from only the highest quality materials available. Our Tasmanian oak hardwood is cut and assembled by hand to ensure a professional finish and our three surfaces cater to professional and emerging artists. This equates to a sturdy product that is gallery-ready and will reflect your professionalism as an artist. We firmly believe that to make the best work, you need to work with the best materials. You may have seen other "ready-made" canvases and frames available on the market at a cheaper price, but *please!* make sure you read the fine print in the product descriptions. Our competitors may use soft pine wood, mass assembled frames, lightweight gsm surfaces, inferior glue and offer only cotton canvases. Switching to FramePack is an instant way to elevate your practice above your peers.
  • When will I receive my order?
All of our products are made to order and you can typically expect to receive your FramePacks within 2-3 weeks of placing your order. In rare cases, this may take longer if courier services are experiencing delays. (We will get in touch with you if there are any delays). If you order is urgent please let us know and we will do our best to get it to you as soon as we can.
  • Where do you ship to?
We currently ship to all areas of Australia.
  • Can I save on shipping?
Our products are made from solid materials and are packaged very dilligently which means they are heavier and bulkier than many online goods. We understand that this can translate to higher shipping costs than most ecommerce products. From time to time we run promotions for shipping discounts, subscribe to our newsletter or contact us for updates!
  • Who owns and operates FramePack?
FramePack is proudly owned and operated by Luke & Tym, two emerging artists turned picture framers. Four years ago our friend Lil decided to close down her framing business so we jumped at the chance to purchase her equipment, thinking we would frame our own work for shows and online sales. One thing led to another and now we provide pre-framed canvases in cotton, polycotton and linen with four different frame finishes to an ever-growing network of emerging and mid-career artists right across Australia. We love everything about framing but there are two things we really enjoy the most. The first is knowing that our work helps emerging artists (just like us) advance their art practices by providing a quality, efficient and competitively priced framing alternative to retail stores. We're very proud of the work we do and the standard and quality of our products. The second is genuinely connecting with our customers and talking about their upcoming shows, what they've been working on, how they use materials and where their art journey is headed. We absolutely love getting to know you and connecting with like minds. Thanks for supporting our small business! You can follow our journey on Instagram @framepack.com.au
